A troubled Superman by Bogota-born sculptor and artist Nadin Ospina. The sculpture, inspired by Auduste Rodin's 'The Thinker' is located in front of Bancolombia's HQ, a central part of the revitalisation of a former industrial zone in the heart of Medellin.
Why did you put a 'thinking' superman in front of Bancolombia's Medellin HQ?
“Superman in Medellin, Superman is an iconic figure that represents modernity, power and the first world it generates an ironic space that has a sense of humour, raising a series of questions related to the cultural interbreeding that we all face as Colombians. Particularly in Medellin, which is a very mixed-race society, where great modernism combines with the great advances in society and at the same time as a pre-modern society that is still muleteer, where the countryside is very important. This superman draws attention to this sense of cross-breeding that we live in Colombia."
Of all the superheroes why did you select Superman?
"Because Superman is the king, he's iconic, indestructible. Besides he has very interesting connotations: he is a poor little orphan, extra-terrestrial and with some very complex psychological problems and emotional difficulties. He is a very interesting personality."
